The Perfect Date

By Ron Zvagelsky Sometimes the person you think is the one turns out to be the wicked witch of the west, but that doesnt naturally mean its your fault. Chemistry is the most important factor when dating, so if things start out well at first and then take a turn for the worst towards the end, someone threw in something they werent supposed to. People have different opinions of what they consider to be the perfect date. Perhaps you are one for going to a nice movie, then taking your girlfriend out to dinner, or you like to hang out at home and just chill. Some people think the perfect date ends with a good night kiss or something a little more intimate. But dont be discouraged when you date doesnt go they way you planned. I have been on dates before that have been so fun that the next time I have taken her out, it flopped big time. There really is nothing you can do about that and I dont expect anyone to get overly upset over it, but as I said before chemistry is the important factor. People that have been in a relationship for a long time usually have their mate figured out pretty well, but is it that easy finding out what they are really feeling? Do you ever wonder what your girlfriend/boyfriend is thinking about? These are all factors that make for a great date, and sometimes you need to get a little lucky. Reading the situation is always important and bringing up entertaining stories is always a plus. If youve ever encountered a bad date, which Im sure most people in this world have, you just have to move on. The thing with coping with a bad date is you need to go out with your friends and just forget about it, because believe me, the other person is doing exactly same thing. As the saying goes, there are plenty of fish in the see, and naturally, there will be someone out there for you. Ron Zvagelsky has a degree in Business Administration from the University of Southern California. He graduated Magna Cum Laude in May 2006. He is currently the Chief Executive Officer of PlanJam where you can find fun date ideas and romantic date ideas. Oil Finishes for Wood - Which One?

By Michael Russell There are really only four significantly different finishes that major marketers call “oil”: Straight oil. There are two main varieties of straight oil - tung oil and linseed oil. Tung oil is usually found labeled as “pure” oil or “China wood oil”. There are 2 forms of linseed oil, raw and boiled. Polymerized oil. There are 2 principal kinds of this type of oil also. You guessed it, polymerized tung oil and polymerized linseed oil. Polymerized oils perform more like varnish than straight oil. They are also expensive and can be hard to find. Regular varnish (including polyurethane) that has been thinned with mineral spirits. This finish is often sold as oil but is technically a wiping varnish. A blend of straight oil and varnish (also including polyurethane). This oil/varnish mix is often sold as Danish oil. Take a look at some of the qualities of each of these major categories. Linseed oil is extracted from seeds of the flax plant. Metallic driers are added to the oil to speed drying time. The linseed oil mix that is available to consumers cures in about a day. Of all finishes except wax, linseed oil is the least protective. Tung oil is extracted from the nuts of the tung tree. Many high-quality varnishes are made with tung oil, but it is rarely used as a finish on its own. Tung oil can be fairly water-resistant with five or six coats, but is too soft to provide superior scratch resistance. In fact, tung oil will require five to six coats to give a pleasing smooth appearance and cures very slowly. The only advantage tung oil has over linseed oil other than water resistance is the fact that it will yellow considerably less. This can be important on blonde woods that you don’t want to darken. Polymerized oil can be made by heating any curing or semi-curing oil in an oxygen-free environment to around 500 degrees Fahrenheit. This increases its hardness and reduces its curing time. This oil is commonly used in ink and outdoor paint. This oil cures very fast and very hard and resists water well also. It is often used in high-end gun stocks. Two problems with this oil are its cost and the fact that it cures too fast to be applied and wiped off unless it is thinned greatly with mineral spirits. Wiping varnishes include most of the “oil” finishes found on store shelves today. They are not in fact oil at all, they’re varnish. There is a difference. Varnish cures much faster than oil. It also cures glossy (unless flattening agents are added by the manufacturer) and is hard when cured. This hardness is the most important difference, as it allows you to build up a thicker layer of finish with repeated coats. Oil/varnish blends are simply what the name implies. Oil and varnish (including polyurethane) are compatible so they can be mixed. This combines the properties of both, reducing the gloss and increasing the cure time, making it easier to apply than varnish, while still providing the hard cure that varnish is used for. Hopefully this list will help you make the right decision on the finish to use on your wood project! 14 Creative Gift Wrap Ideas

By Susie Cortright When you’re talking about presents, presentation can be everything. Here are 14 creative gift wrap ideas. 1. Cut shapes or monograms from cardstock or old holiday greeting cards and hang from ribbon, jute or yarn. 2. Use a creative wrap that coordinates with the gift. For example, use a receiving blanket and ribbon to wrap a baby’s gift; fun scrapbooking paper for a crafter; old maps for a traveler. 3. Use fabric scraps and ribbon. Each time you are in a discount store, stop by the fabric clearance section. You can often find elegant and unique supplies at a deep discount. 4. Print your favorite family photos of the year onto paper and use for wrapping small treasures. 5. Recycle gift wrap from previous years. 6. Adorn the gift with silk flowers or small charms. The booming scrapbooking industry has made available so many amazing little embellishments that are perfect for adorning gifts. 7. Use rubber stamps to stamp the recipients’ name, monogram, or a special holiday message. 8. Make or use a fabric gift bag. Orientaltrading.com has a large variety of inexpensive and unique wrapping supplies. 9. Use the recipient’s favorite section of the newspaper as gift wrap. Whether it’s the comics or the sports page, this is an easy, inexpensive way to add a personal touch - especially when combined with one of these other techniques. 10. Fold a gift box from last year’s holiday cards or seasonal cardstock. Here’s how: http://jas.familyfun.go.com/arts-and-crafts?page=CraftDisplay&craftid=10500 11. Wrap a gift in a drawing or painting that your children have made. 12. Use natural elements from your area to adorn gifts. Pine boughs or pine cones, dried grasses, and dried leaves are all charming choices. 13. Purchase plain paper and ask your children to decorate the wrapped item or gift bag with drawings and special messages for wrapping paper that is truly one-of-a-kind. 14. Browse flea markets, garage sales, or dollar stores for inexpensive and unique boxes, bags, and bows. You can even decoupage an old cigar box with photos or memorabilia and create a gift box that is a gift in itself. The Hell Lawn or Garden Called “Morning Glory”

By Kevin Cundick When one originally looks at the plant often referred to as Morning Glory or Field Bindweed, the flowers produced are beautiful and inviting. Though Morning Glory can be lovely, you can find out quickly that it can turn your lawn or garden practically into a living hell when you want to try to get rid of it. In a number of properties Ive purchased Ive discovered the wrong way that you do not try to control Morning Glory by pulling it out. It seems as though the Morning Glory takes that as an act of war and strikes back with a vengeance. It multiplies and the problem becomes much worse than when you originally started. Sometimes it seemed as though I would never be able to win the war I had going with Morning Glory. The good news is that the war with Morning Glory can be won. You must be patient and persistent. The method you choose to fight it depends a lot upon your budget and the way your lawn and/or garden are setup. Morning Glory within a Garden A common spot to have trouble with Morning Glory is within a Garden. Controlling Morning Glory in your Garden requires more patience than with other places due to the fact that you probably dont want to kill the plants that are nearby. For this reason you will want to use a lot of caution when treating Morning Glory in your Garden. My recommendation for controlling Morning Glory in your Garden is to use Round Up and spread the Round Up on to the leaves of the Morning Glory plants using a paintbrush. Ive also heard of some people using an eyedropper. Patiently do this daily for approximately two weeks until the plant is dead. Continue with each Morning Glory plant until youve killed them all. It will be necessary to keep a close watch on your garden for new Morning Glory sprouts. It can take time to get it all under control. Thus patience is required, but you will be rewarded by no longer having Morning Glory control your Garden. Morning Glory in the Lawn For Morning Glory in the lawn, timing seems to be pretty critical for the best way to control it. In Utah where I live, the best time seems to be in the Fall when the flower is open and just before the first big frost. Since this article is based on my own experience you may need to adjust the timing someone for the area in which you live. If you live in an area that doesnt have a frost, I would recommend controlling it in late Fall, again with the flowers open. Apply Banvel mixed with 2,4-D. This will enable you to control the Morning Glory without killing the lawn. This again must be done with persistence. You must watch for new sprouts reapply several times as needed. This is a very pesky plant and may have to be treated through more than one season before you are able to successfully control it. Kevin Cundick writes articles for the Best Guide to Gardening web directory. Kevin uses the experiences he has had with Gardening within his articles. Best Ways To Identify Your Ideal Clients & Customers

By Glenn Ebersole As a business coach, I strongly believe that it would be great if all businesses today would know who their ideal clients and customers are. If I asked each of the readers of this article to tell me who your ideal clients are, could you tell me? Have you ever taken time to truly identify your ideal clients and what they are like? I suspect a majority of readers of this article answered NO to these questions. Too many business owners and managers cannot identify their ideal clients and customers and as a consequence they continue to chase any prospect and sell to everyone. By doing this, they work harder, not smarter, waste valuable time & resources, and they fail to grow their business. Worse yet, too many business owners and managers find it absolutely impossible to walk away from any prospect even when they know the prospect is not the right fit for their business. In my professional business coaching practice, I have worked with many companies to help identify their target markets and ideal clients. I strongly impress upon them the importance of doing this so they can strategically grow their business. What advice do I share with my clients on how to identify their target markets and ideal clients? Here is a short list of some advice I do share with them. + Identify prospective client company and individuals that will match up closely with your company strengths, your companys identified opportunities, and the vision, mission, guiding principles and goals of your company. + Set aside time to carefully think about the people and companies and organizations that you really love to work with and write down some of the traits of these individuals and companies. Some of those traits could be: they value a long term relationship; they look at the value of services and products, rather than cost; their assignments are challenging; they are passionate about growing their business; etc. + Develop a demographic profile of your ideal client company or organization using such parameters as: geographic location; number of offices; annual revenues; number of employees; types of employees; SIC codes; etc. + Develop a demographic profile of your ideal client as an individual using such characteristics as: where they live; level of education; income level; skill sets; job title; area of work responsibility; personal interests & hobbies; etc. + Write clear descriptions of your ideal client and organization and your ideal individual within a client company of organization and then refer back to those descriptions before developing and implementing your marketing efforts. Use these descriptions as a filter for any prospect list you develop. If you want to learn how you can benefit from a guide, facilitator and business coach to assist you in identifying your ideal client companies and organizations and the ideal individuals within those companies and organizations and how to achieve a higher level of confidence that you have a clear description of whom you should be talking with and why their company or organization needs your products and/or services, please contact Glenn Ebersole today through his web site at www.businesscoach4u.com or email him at jgecoach@aol.com. 3 Most Common Ways To Meet Women and The Problems That Come With Each of Them

By Teddy Shabba When it comes to finding a woman to date, men normally choose 1 0f 3 different ways to go about finding her; online, bars/clubs, or chance. Of course each way has both its good and bad points however, in this article the focus is mainly going to be on the bad points of each way. 1.) Online Dating This is quickly becoming the most convenient way to meet new women. Yet, it is important to understand that online anyone can be whoever they want so you don’t ever really know who you are dealing with. Your best bet is to quickly set up a meeting offline so you have a better idea of who you are dealing with even though women generally reveal a lot in their profiles if you know what you are looking for. 2.) Bars/Clubs Usually known as meat markets this is where you get to interact with women who usually are single and simply looking for a good time. The mixture of alcohol and dim lighting raises the attractiveness of a woman at least 2 levels. More importantly, however, a lot of women who frequent these places have a lot of emotional and sexual baggage. 3.) Chance Unlike the first two the main problem with chance meetings is you have to make your move when it is unexpected and risk rejection right out in the open. It also requires that you get a relatively active life since an important part of this step is actually being somewhere where women are present which currently is everywhere except inside your house. In closing it is important to understand that you can meet and find women just about anywhere. However, finding quality women is a lot harder and is going to take time and if you take chance out of the equation or don’t act upon chance every time you see it. It will only cause you to take a longer time to find a quality woman perhaps. All About Doll House Furniture

By Laura Anne Grey There are so many unique and wonderful pieces of miniature doll house furniture that deciding what to put in your dolls house is very often difficult. To find the best doll house furniture for your house there are a few things you need to know: What scale is doll house furniture and will it fit in your doll house? What is doll house furniture made from? What is so special about hand made pieces of furniture? Is cheaper better? What size is miniature doll house furniture? There are two main sizes of doll house furniture, twelfth scale and twenty fourth scale. Twelfth scale is twelve times smaller than in real life and twenty fourth scale is twenty four times smaller than in real life. Most miniaturists own twelfth scale doll houses and there is a lot more miniature doll house furniture available in twelfth scale than in twenty fourth scale. If you are unsure of the size of your doll house measure the height of your doll house rooms. A twelfth scale house will have rooms between 8″ and 11″ I height. A twenty fourth scale house will have rooms between 4″ in height and 5.5″ in height. What is doll house furniture made from? Dolls house furniture can be made from wood or metal. Many wood pieces are very intricately carved and are very decorative. Most wooden pieces of furniture are made from ply or balsa wood and stained mahogany, walnut or pine. If you see a piece of doll house furniture advertised as mahogany in most cases this will mean that it is stained with mahogany varnish. The exception to this is with hand made pieces. Some master craftsmen use the highest quality pieces of wood for their work. What is so special about hand made pieces of furniture? Hand made miniature doll house furniture is the finest doll house furniture you can get. These pieces are hand carved by master craftsmen and can sell for hundreds of pounds. Hand made items require a lot of work and hours are spent constructing each piece. Many items are unique one-offs that will never be recreated. Some very serious doll house collector’s only fill their doll houses with hand made items and their collections are worth thousands of pounds. Is cheaper doll house furniture better? When choosing your miniature doll house furniture you need to judge if an item is worth its money. Some doll house furniture can be picked up for very little money but these items are usually poor quality and break very easily. Compare a few items and check the quality. It is better to pay a little extra for a set that will last. Cheaper is not always better. Laura Anne Grey has been a doll house builder and miniature enthusiast for over ten years. She own a doll house business in South Wales and is an expert in her field. Automatic Lawn Mowers

By Lucy Bartlett If you find mowing your lawn tiresome and think that your time could be better spent elsewhere, there could be a solution. Have you ever considered an automatic or robotic lawn mower? Automatic lawnmowers can roam around your yard trimming your lawn while you are doing something much more exciting, it could be doing it while you are sleeping if you so wished! You can programme your mower to mow on specific days and at specific times so you never need to worry about remembering to switch it on. A robotic mower runs on a battery powered electric motor, which it can recharge automatically when it is running low, or whilst it is docking. It can mow up to nearly an acre on one charge. There are no cords or cables to look out for either. Find more info at www.lazymower.info To set up the area you wish to be mowed, you simply establish your perimeters using the supplied wire, more can be purchased separately if needed. The mower can sense objects such as trees and hedges and will operate around them. It can even operate on a slope or uneven ground. The automatic mower moves across the lawn in a crisscross pattern from different angles so it cuts the whole area that you have selected. The automatic mowers do not have collection boxes, instead they maintain the lawn by trimming the grass and leaving the cuttings as mulch, this adds vital nutrients to your lawn, thus making it much healthier. Not only is it good for your lawn, they are good for the environment, with no oils or gas to worry about they really cut down on pollution. The mowers safety features include child safety locks, anti-theft locks, and sensors that will steer the mower away from any object that might get in its path, such as a small child or pet. Mowers range in price upwards of a thousand US dollars, but considering the time and effort saved they can work out as a great investment. Lucy Bartlett is a proud contributing author. Attending Business Conferences: Planning for Success

By George Parker Do you attend several trade conferences each year but feel you are not getting your moneys worth? These tips will help you to advance your goals, create new opportunities, gain more knowledge and walk away with more contacts. Plan to be successful. Being successful at trade conferences starts with choosing the right conferences to attend. Choose conferences that fit into your larger company goals or plans. For example, if your company has a marketing plan, perhaps you can advance that plan by attending a particular conference. You may be able to see key attendees capable of helping you make strides on your plan. Expert speakers at the conference may be able shed some light on particular marketing issues you are facing. You may be able to meet key people with whom your firm can transact business. Other potential areas where conferences can pay off include operations, financing, personnel, and of course, personal development. Set goals for attending. Before you attend a conference, focus on what you want to accomplish. Write down your goals and objectives. Be very specific. For example, you may decide that a particular conference will attract lots of dealers and distributors for products like yours. If you want to meet two or three good distributors capable of distributing your companys product in a particular region, you might set that as a goal in attending. Another goal might be to learn how competitors use certain distribution channels to move their product more effectively. By attending certain workshops and/or pursuing the topic with people that you meet or see at the conference, you may be able to gather this information. In sizing up a conference, try to envision all the ways that the conference can deliver on various goals and objectives that your company might have. Proceed from writing down these goals to setting specific objectives. Then develop a conference strategy to achieve these objectives. Develop a conference action plan. An effective plan starts with reading the conference agenda carefully. Pick sessions to attend that will advance your goals and objectives. If an advance list of attendees is available, identify the people that you want to see. For key people, call them before the conference and schedule a specific time and place to meet. If there are people that you want to be introduced to, perhaps you can identify an attending colleague to make the introduction. Another strategy that works well for some is to organize a social gathering. A dinner, an entertainment event or a mixer in one of the hotels suites can be ideal for this purpose. The idea is to invite a select group with common interests capable of creating opportunities for your firm and with one another. For each day of the conference, create a preliminary plan of things to accomplish, people to see and sessions to attend. The best time to review your daily plan is usually the night before. At that time you can review the present days accomplishments and make any adjustments for the upcoming day. Now that you have developed specific goals and plans for your next conference, you are in the best position to realize success. You know what you want to accomplish and you have an excellent plan for reaching your goals. You may not realize it, but by doing this preliminary work you may have created far greater value for you company than the money that will be spent on the conference. You have set the stage for advancing the companys goals, creating new and exciting opportunities and gaining new knowledge and business contacts. George Parker is a co-founder, Director and Executive Vice President of Leasing Technologies International, Inc. (LTI).
